This is one book I can't wait for them to finish translating. Actually, last time I checked, no one has picked it up for an English adaptation (why?!!!) and thus I might have to wait a bit. The story in question is called Der Mond und das Mädchen (The Moon and the Maiden) and it is written by a well-known contemporary German author called Martin Mosebach.

The Moon and the Maiden is supposed to be a quirky little tale about a married couple. They tied the knot recently and now have moved to the big bad city. Both of them have different outlooks on life; actually, I think it is their respective backgrounds that bring about such different takes on various matters. Ina, the Mrs. who had a sheltered upbringing, seems pretty unhappy with their new home and neighborhood. The good old husband, on the other hand, seems to be getting caught up with the weird and wonderful aspects of their new life.

I read the English extract for the novel and I must admit, I am intrigued. It comes across as a light read where the authors describes situations and people with a bit of humor. Furthermore, I love the way he unfolds the story itself; you learn a little about everyone as you read further and the author is in no rush to unveil it all. Admittedly, it is his laidback approach that appeals to me the most. Alright, so maybe they could break down a paragraph or two but I like the way the pace is slow and …. relaxing. Call this book a strange tale about an inner city romance.
